The Latest statistics from the Swedish Forest Agency show that the area notified for felling in June and July decreased, compared to the corresponding months in 2023. In June, the decrease was 18 percent and in July it was 2 percent. The area regarding applications for permits for final felling in montane forests in June was less than a fifth compared to June last year. In July, however, the was an increase by 9 percent compared with the previous year.
Experience regarding statistics on notifications and applications show that they can vary from month to month due to the forestry planning of various stakeholders. One should therefore be cautious and refrain from drawing conclusions about the planned felling.
The area of notified logging and permits applied for was 21,197 hectares in June, which was 18 percent less than June 2023. Of this area, applications for permits for final felling of montane forests were 276 hectares, compared with 1,439 hectares in the same month last year.
Compared to the average area in notifications and applications for the country in June over the past five years, this is a decrease of 17 percent. Compared to the average area for the last ten years, this is a decrease of 20 percent.
In total, the area of notifications and applications decreased in June for the whole country, compared with May last year.
The area of notified logging and permits applied for was 15,997 hectares in July, which was 2 percent less than July 2023. Of this area, applications for permits for final felling of montane forests were 213 hectares, compared with 196 hectares in the same month last year.
Compared to the average area in notifications and applications for the country in July over the past five years, this is a decrease of 15 percent. Compared to the average area for the last ten years, this is a decrease of 16 percent.
In total, the area of notifications and applications increased in July in Northern and Southern Norrland, compared with May last year. In Svealand and in Götaland, however, there was a decrease of 14 and 31 percent respectively.
For January to July, the area of notifications and applications for permits for final felling was 125,007 hectares, which is a decrease of 11 percent, compared to the same period last year. So far this year, the area of applications for permits for final felling of montane forests account for 2,306 hectares, for the corresponding period last year the area was 9,729 hectares.
In Northern Norrland, the area notified and applied for has decreased by 23 percent, in Svealand by 17 percent and in Götaland by 11 percent. In Southern Norrland the area has increased by 6 percent, compared to the corresponding period 2023.
Compared to the average area of notifications and applications for the country in the corresponding period for the previous five years, this is a decrease of 9 percent. Also compared to the previous ten years, this is a decrease of 9 percent.
An increase or decrease in notifications and applications for permits for final felling does not necessarily mean that the area of actual final felling has increased or decreased to the same extent.
Statistics refer to total notifications for felling and applications for permission on productive forest land for final felling in montane forest and valuable broad-leaved forest.
