Unchanged area of notified fellings in August

The most recent statistics from the Swedish Forest Agency show that the area notified or applied for felling in August was unchanged, compared to August 2024. The area regarding applications for permits for felling in montane forests decreased 46 percent, compared to the same month last year.

Forest Fertilization returns to previous level again in 2024

Forest fertilization increased significantly in 2024, covering about 40,000 hectares, compared with 15,000 hectares the year before. This is a statistically significant increase from the record-low level in 2022 and signals a return to levels last seen before the start of the war in Ukraine.

Increase in notified area for June and July

The l most recent statistics from the Swedish Forest Agency show that the area notified for felling in June and July increased 8 percent, compared to the corresponding months in 2024. The area regarding applications for permits for final felling in montane forests decreased 22 percent, compared to June and July last year.

Increasing Stocks of Pulpwood and Pulp Chips

Stocks of pulpwood and pulp chips continue to grow in 2025, while stocks of coniferous sawlogs remain at roughly the same level as at the same time last year.

Postponed statistics on roundwood prices

The planned release of statistics on roundwood prices in August is postponed to October. This is due to a new inquiry on roundwood prices initiated by the Swedish Forest Agency during this spring. Additional time for gathering of data and analysis is required before publishing the statistics.

Increasing harvesting costs

The cost of harvesting (felling and extraction to roadside) increased by 4 percent in 2024, according to new statistics from the Swedish Forest Agency and Skogforsk. The rate of increase has declined compared to the two previous years that saw increases of 9 percent in 2023 and 12 percent in 2022. However, in fixed prices the change is smaller.

An increase in notified fellings in May

The latest statistics from the Swedish Forest Agency show that the area notified or applied for felling in May increased 17 percent, compared to May 2024. The area regarding applications for permits for felling in montane forests decreased 44 percent, compared to the same month last year.

Continued decrease in fellings in 2024

Felling in Sweden decreased in 2024 and amounted to just over 87 million cubic meters standing volume according to preliminary statistics from the Swedish Forest Agency. The decline is a continuation of the sharp decrease in 2023 after a couple of years with high felling levels. The felling in 2024 is the lowest since 2013.

The trend of fewer forest owners and larger holdings continues

The proportion of declared productive forest land area in the size class greater than 1,000 hectares has increased from 50 to 55 percent between 1999 and 2024. The increase has been particularly notable among Individual owners, where the area in holdings over 1,000 hectares has more than doubled, according to statistics from the Swedish Forest Agency.

Decrease in delivered seedlings in 2024

A total of 405 million seedlings were delivered in 2024, which is a decrease of 26 million (6 percent) compared to 2023. The proportion of delivered seedlings of Scots pine was 54 percent while the proportion of Norway spruce was 41 percent. The proportion of delivered seedlings of other tree species was 5 percent.
