                        The Swedish Forest Agency is responsible for official statistics, which means that we produce and provide official statistics for five areas. Our statistical areas are forestry production, employment in forestry, forestry structure, forestry economics, price developments in forestry, and forest management and utilization for economic, social and environmental purposes.

                        • The trend of fewer forest owners and larger holdings continues

                          The proportion of declared productive forest land area in the size class greater than 1,000 hectares has increased from 50 to 55 percent between 1999 and 2024. The increase has been particularly notable among Individual owners, where the area in holdings over 1,000 hectares has more than doubled, according to statistics from the Swedish Forest Agency.

                        • Decrease in delivered seedlings in 2024

                          A total of 405 million seedlings were delivered in 2024, which is a decrease of 26 million (6 percent) compared to 2023. The proportion of delivered seedlings of Scots pine was 54 percent while the proportion of Norway spruce was 41 percent. The proportion of delivered seedlings of other tree species was 5 percent.

                        • Voluntary set-asides increase during 2024

                          Nyhet | Statistik - 15 May 2025

                          1.4 million hectares of forest land were voluntary set-aside during 2024 and the area covered by certification schemes was 14.7 million hectares. The voluntary set-aside area has increased and the certified area decreased marginally since 2023, according to the Swedish Forest Agency’s statistics.
