Statistics on Forestry Contractors
How many enterprises are engaged in forestry contracting, and what types of forestry contracting do they carry out? What is the financial situation of forestry contractor enterprises? New statistics on forestry contractors are now available. For 2024 the statistics are based on 3657 forestry contractors, och which 60 percent were harvesting contractors.
The purpose of the statistics is to describe forestry contractor enterprises and their financial situation, and to monitor developments over time. The financial indicators provide an overview of the enterprises' profitability and financial position.
The statistics are based on data on forestry contractors certified under the PEFC group certification scheme and identified as primarily engaged in forestry contracting. The statistics for 2024 are under development, and the figures will be produced again at the next publication. The figures for 2024 may be revised when the figures for 2025 are published. Publication of the 2025 figures is scheduled for 2027.
The statistics for 2024 are published as statistics under development. At the next publication, the figures for 2024 will be produced again using the same methodology as the figures for 2025.
The statistics do not include forestry contractors that are not covered by PEFC group certification but have forestry contracting as their main activity. The number of such enterprises is unknown. It is therefore not known how many enterprises in the target population are excluded from the published statistics.
For the reference year 2024, the figures regarding the number of enterprises and the financial indicators are based on partly different data sources and population definitions. The number of enterprises reported does not fully correspond to the number of enterprises underlying the financial indicators. The financial indicators cover enterprises registered in Sweden that were active during 2024.

Number of Forestry Contractor Enterprises
In 2024, the statistics covered 3 657 forestry contractor enterprises. Of these, 3 613 were registered in Sweden and 44 were registered abroad. Harvesting contractors accounted for 60 per cent of the enterprises covered by the statistics.
Financial indicators
For forestry contractor enterprises registered in Sweden, median values for operating margin, net margin and equity ratio are presented by employee size class.
For forestry contractor enterprises registered in Sweden, the median operating margin was 17,7 per cent, the median net margin was 15,6 per cent and the median equity ratio was 47,4 per cent.
