Site description
The virtual demo Balsjö is situated about 60 kilometres west of the town of Umeå, in northern Sweden. The site is representative for large areas of northern Boreal forests. The demo area consists of three head-water catchments. The demo site was set up in April 2004 and after two years of pre-treatment monitoring two of the catchments were felled, the logging residues were left on site. The run-off water chemistry has been monitored by bi-monthly samplings during the years 2004 to 2016, occasional sampling of mercury has occurred.
