Forestry and Water workshop in Uppsala

Summary of the current state of knowledge regarding the effects of forestry on water quality.

WAMBAF organized a workshop on September 13-15, 2016 in Uppsala. The workshop summarised the current state of knowledge regarding the effects of forestry on water quality. We discussed the synergies and trade-offs between forestry and ecology. Particularly, forest management strategies needed to increase soil and surface-water resilience in the face of increasing pressures from climate change, as well as anticipated increases in harvest intensity and forest drainage.

The workshop was attended by 30 persons including scientists, administrators and forest managers from the different Baltic Sea countries and the UK. The outcomes of the workshop will be published in a position paper targeted to the policy makers.
